California Sunshine Chili

1 pound ground beef

1 medium onion, chopped

3 cloves garlic, finely chopped

1 can (15 1/4 ounces) kidney beans, rinsed and drained

3/4 cup (about 5 ounces) pitted dried plums, quartered

1 tablespoon chili powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

Add onion and garlic; cook and stir 3 to 4 minutes or until onion is translucent. Add beans, tomato sauce, dried plums, chili powder and oregano; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low. Cover; simmer 25 minutes or until mixture thickens slightly.  Season with salt and pepper. Serve in bowls and top with cheese, if desired.
